Dr. Light Bailey German’s life began on Halloween (October 31, 1939, Dallas) and ended on a Saturday night (April 27, 2024, Austin), because she always loved a party. A passionate teacher for over 60 years, and an East Austin resident for 55 years, Light taught at many places, including Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, St. Edward’s, Concordia, ACC, and UT-Austin, where she taught freshman composition and ran the Writing Lab. From 1978-2017, she was the owner-director & English department chair of Huntington-Surrey School. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob; her sons, Raad and Kirk; and many other loving relatives, friends, colleagues and former students. Her essays were published in the Statesman on several occasions.
